What Is Here Without a Single Thought
Live Satsang 8-9-2026
To the body, to the human body and the human mind, there appears to be a person here, right? And that’s the same for me. To the human mind, my human mind and human body sees a person, sees you as people, and if I look in a mirror, will see this as a person.
But the truth of what I am doesn’t see that.
It’s just the totality.
Everything is just the totality. Everything is just whatever we want to call it, God or whatever. You know, I think Will likes the word God.
“So you can actually perceive this totality?”
Of course. That’s what I am. That’s who you are.
“But is it an actual perception for you? You can actually—”
I feel it.
“Really?”
There’s nothing to see. It’s just one totality. What would you be looking at, right? It sees itself. It knows itself. Let’s change the word seeing to knowing. ‘Cause it’s more of a knowing than an actual physical seeing.
Does it have eyes? No, it doesn’t have eyes. It’s not a human.
It’s nothing like a human. It has nothing to do with a human.
It just is.
And it is eternal, infinite, and limitless.
But it’s not a being. You know, when we use the word God, we often think of the way we heard it in religion. It’s a being called God, a very powerful, all-powerful being called God, a being.
But it’s not a being. It’s not even a being. It just is.
It just is.
And that’s what I am. What else could I be?
(laughs) I guess, I mean, I could think, I used to, that I was a body or a mind or a spirit or a soul or something that was other than that. But there is nothing other than that. Those are just illusions.
Those are just illusions.
“So, you can see two things. You can see ultimate reality, and you also see the way that we see things. Like you, presumably you, I mean, you seem to be able to see the world.”
Yeah.
“You’ve got two things going on. So you can simultaneously know the—”
Yeah. In Nirvikalpa Samadhi, I don’t see a world. It’s just God. It’s just the totality. There is no world or being or a person to experience that. There’s just the totality being itself, you know?
“So you have to emerge from Nirvikalpa Samadhi, and then you can see it in like an overlap in some kind of—”
Yeah. Yeah, like an overlap. Right. Like an overlap. Like the body sees with the eyes, if it’s not blind, it sees forms and shapes and colors, and the mind says, ‘That’s Will. That’s Caleb. That’s Gary. That’s Carola. That’s Lei. That’s Susan. That’s Marguita.’ It puts that label on it, right? So those things happen.
Does that happen here in this body and mind?
Of course it does.
Of course it does. How could I speak to you otherwise? You know, how could I answer a question? Where would it be coming from? If it’s only the totality, then there’s nobody asking a question. There’s just the totality. But that’s reality. There is just the totality.
Everything else is an appearance of the totality, right? Everything else is an appearance of the totality.
The totality is complete in itself.
Does it want to have appearances and people and a world and planets and things? No, it doesn’t. Does it not want that? No. It doesn’t have wants or needs or desires.
It’s 100% complete.
Because it’s 100% complete, it doesn’t want anything.
It doesn’t want anything to be different. It didn’t one day say, like, ‘I think a universe would be nice.’ No, universe just happened. It’s not like a human, right? So it doesn’t have anything that a human has.
It doesn’t have wants or needs. It doesn’t decide something. It doesn’t plan something. It doesn’t say, like, ‘Let’s build this thing here,’ right? Those are all human thoughts. So humans, in order to try and understand this, misunderstand it, create a misunderstanding which says that, you know, God is kind of like a human in some way, sort of like a human, right?
Sort of like a human in the way that it wants something, it thinks something. It chooses some people over other people. It says people are good or bad, you know? It says people are better than cockroaches, right? But it doesn’t do any of those things. Everything that we learn about God in religion is wrong.
But then what’s right? Well, you can’t say anything about it. It is. That’s it. It is. It just is. What is it? You can’t say what it is. Yes, Susan.
“Peter, would you say that it’s an energetic field? Is it energy?”
That would be one way of describing it. Here’s an interesting thing, and I think this is an answer to a question that Lei had posted to me, is that he has a Dzogchen practice, very diligent Dzogchen practice, and Dzogchen practice says certain things about what this infinite space is, this infinite energy, and should be looked at like that.
But everything that we learn in spiritual practices, everything that we learn from all spiritual teachers, including this one, including this one here, everything that we learn is not accurate to what it is, right? Because we’re using words and we’re using thoughts. So the best way to understand the truth of what it is is not to listen to what anyone says or anything that you’ve ever heard or anything you’ve ever believed.
And the teachers are wonderful. There are many wonderful teachers, but if we really want to know, we have to let go of all of that, all of it, and all our own thoughts. And what remains, what you feel, what remains, that’s it. Because it’s beyond thought, so thought cannot help us.
Can the thought of Buddha help us?
No.
Can the thought of Ramana help us?
No.
Can the thought of Jesus help us?
No.
Can my thoughts help?
No.
No thoughts can help. So none of our thoughts… I mean, understand, I’m saying that these are sort of what we consider luminaries in spiritual teachings, right? So if their thoughts can’t help us, how are our thoughts gonna help us, right?
They’re not.
They don’t help us. They’re not necessary, but they can distract us. So we can hold onto the words of Buddha. We can hold onto the words of Jesus or Ramana or my words. We can hold onto these, and if we do, they’ll distract us from this direct experience of what this is. And that wouldn’t be helpful, would it?
That wouldn’t be beneficial. So if we call it energy, now we’re gonna think it’s energy. So my suggestion is don’t call it anything. Let all those words and thoughts go. All words and thoughts go.
“Well, you should then call it the indescribable because that’s what it is. It’s indescribable or the unnameable.”
Don’t even call it that.
Let’s just not for a moment. Listen, and let’s not ask a question. Just bear with me for a moment.
This is an instruction of something that you can do right now. Right now, you can just let go of all thoughts. All your spiritual beliefs, all your attempts to try to understand what this is or try to understand what I say or that anybody else has ever said. Just relax your attention on thought. Just let it fade into the background.
Like you’re looking at a few clouds in a blue sky, and you want to focus only on the blue sky. You just don’t let the clouds interfere. You just want to look at the blue part of the sky, not the clouds. So you want to let these thoughts go.
All thoughts. Whatever thought comes, just let it go.
Will they come?
Probably, yeah. We’re used to them. It’s a habit. So just let them go. They’re not important in this moment. Right now, in this moment, this moment, this living moment, thoughts are not important at all. They can only be a distraction to you.
So notice what’s here when there isn’t a thought.
Nothing to label. Whatever’s here, don’t make a label of it. Don’t say, ‘Oh, this is energy. Oh, this is an emotion. This is love. This is bliss. This is fear.’ Whatever. Don’t, don’t do that. Just let it be. Let it be whatever it is, and don’t interfere with it. Don’t force something onto it because that’s not what it is.
That’s not what any of our experiences are. They’re not what we think, right?
Something is here without a thought, and what’s here without a thought doesn’t need a thought to be. It was here before there was a thought.
A thought doesn’t make it more of what it is. It makes it less. It distracts. So just don’t do that.
Allow it to be what it is.
And don’t even be curious about what it is. Just allow it to be what it is. Save that curiosity or attempt to understand for later.
And if you do this, this is what we call Liberation, Moksha.
What are we liberated from?
From thought.
From illusion.
Without thought, there’s no you.
There’s no separate person, is there?
The separate person is made of thought, and without thought, there’s no you here either.
There’s just this.
Essential Pointers
The Totality Is Already Complete
Reality lacks nothing.
Therefore, it has no wants.
No needs.
No desires.
No plans.
No intention to become something else,
or to become anything.
God is not a superhuman person up in the sky making decisions.
God is absolutely unlike like a person in every way.
God is Reality.
And Reality simply is.
Words Can Only Point
No word can describe Reality.
Every name—
God,
Self,
Brahman,
Consciousness,
Energy—
is only a pointer.
Even the greatest spiritual teachings point beyond their words.
Don’t mistake the pointer for what it points to.
The finger pointing at the moon is not the moon.
Direct Experience
Let thought settle into the background.
Don’t fight it.
Don’t follow it.
Like clouds floating in a pristine blue sky,
let them all go
and notice…
what is here…
before thought names it.
The Separate Self
The separate person is created by thought.
“My body.”
“My history.”
“My story.”
“My relationships.”
Without a single thought…
what remains?
Awakening
Nothing needs to be added.
Nothing needs to be achieved.
Nothing needs to be understood.
Awakening is not becoming something.
It is letting go of what you are not.
It is letting go of what is not real,
so you can directly realize what is.
Love, Peace, and Bliss
Love is the absence of separation.
Peace is the absence of conflict.
Bliss is what remains when the dream falls away.
They are not things to acquire.
They are not things at all.
They are what remains
when the illusion of things is no more.
The Invitation
Don’t try to understand.
Don’t label.
Don’t compare.
Simply remain.
What is here…
without a single thought?
