I’m reading a book Peter recomends in the Resources section: “The Heart of Understanding” by Thich Nhat Hanh (I hope that got spelled right)
I have not read much of it yet, but already I am finding it very helpful. For the first time, the saying that form is emptiness, emptiness is form, from the Heart Sutra, is making sense.
He explains that emptiness here means ’empty of a separate self’ or of a separate identity in itself. Nothing exists in isolation.
He also makes the comparison of form and emptiness being like a wave and water. The wave is water, the water is the wave.

Yes, Hazel, thank you for mentioning this book. I had worked with and chanted the Heart Sutra for years without really understanding it before I met Thay (Thich Nhat Hanh) and this little book. The Heart Sutra is a very powerful and profound teaching. To the logical mind, it makes no sense. But it is not speaking to the logical mind of thoughts and concepts. It is speaking to truth. That is a very different matter. 🙂
